Learn to make clay-sculpted papier mache masks and costumes from our resident master mask maker and Horse & Bamboo artistic director. We will be making a set of animal masks which will be performed in both the parade and the finale in the park.

Stilting

Stilting with Rachel Hyde
15, 21, 22 June 4-6pm, 25 June 3-4pm
and 5-7pm (Finale dress rehearsal)

Do something amazing...learn how to walk and dance on stilts. Local performer and artist Rachel (see her work at www.chicksonsticks.co.uk) will be training a group of adults and children to stilt walk and make costumes for the parade and finale.

Wire Deer

Large Wire Sculpture with Theo Wickenden
12, 13, 19, 20 June at 4:30 to 6:30pm

Work with our newest lead parade artist and learn to make a giant parade mobile using sculptural wire. See Theo's sculptures at www.theowickenden.co.uk.

Rain Queen

and Finale dress rehearsal 25 June 5-7pm

Learn the craft of giant puppet construction and manipulation by making a new parade puppet and practicing on Thingumajig Theatre giants. See Andrew past giants at: www.thingumajig.info/creatures.

Samba

Samba Drumming with Mitch Oldham
Mondays 7, 14, 21 June at 6 to 8pm

Join the year-round Handmade Samba Brigade as they prepare for the big event. All levels welcome; ages 14+; £3/session.

Ladybirds

Inflatables with Jamima Latimer
8 and 9 June at 12 to 4pm

Help Jamima (maker of last year's inflatable flower and ladybirds) make a set of whimsical hot air balloons and learn the secrets of making inflatable parade art. These sessions are £5/day. See examples of her work at www.spacecadets.com.

All classes are £25 for four two-hour sessions except Samba Drumming which is £3/session and Inflatable which is £5/day. All classes are at the parade workshop listed above.

To sign up, please send an email with your name and which class you'd like to take to info {at} hebdenbridgeparade.org (replace "{at}" with @) or call 01706 812645.

Outreach Workshops

We will send artists to work with community organisations and school groups to make their own parade entry.

Last year's Outreach Workshops included sessions with: Central Street Nursery and Infants School, Burnley Road Primary School, Dodnaze Community Centre, Hebden Vale Daycentre, Mytholm Meadows Sheltered Housing, Old Town Brownies and Scout Road Primary School.

If you'd like to make your own costumes outside of our workshops and join us on parade day, please remember our two rules: No words or logos. No motorisied vehicles.
